The prelate of Opus Dei Mons. Fernando Ocáriz has appointed don Sergio Tapia-Velasco as the new rector of Sedes Sapientiae replacing don Javier Canosa. Don Sergio is familiar to the students as the vice rector of collegio Tiberino and moreover, he is a regular face in the formation course of September every year who motivates the final year seminarians with his lessons.
Don Sergio Tapia-Velasco hails from Mexico and is a priest incardinated in the Prelature of Opus Dei. He was ordained in 1998. For over 21 years, Don Sergio has dedicated himself to the Institutional Communication of the Catholic Church. He is Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Anthropology and is in charge of the Department of Public Speaking and Media Training at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. He has extensive experience in the selection and training of candidates for the priesthood and in the spiritual and professional accompaniment of priests from all over the world. From 1999 to 2008 he worked as vice rector of the Sedes Sapientiae seminary; he then moved to Collegio Tiberino, where he worked until 2024.
Upon assuming his office, Don Sergio has already begun the lessons of homiletics in the course of September and has initiated the oral presentations of the homilies and sermons with final year students.
