On 16th may our Seminary welcomed Mar Thomas Elavanal, bishop of Kalyan (India), to which the seminarian Justin Joy Pokkath belongs. The Diocese of Kalyan, established on April 30, 1988, by Pope John Paul II, serves Syro-Malabar Catholics across 15 provinces in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The diocese has 196 priests, including 75 diocesan and 121 religious priests, and supports 30 seminarians preparing for the priesthood.
A few days later, he was with us Mar Sebastian Vaniyapurackal, the Curia Bishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. At Sedes Sapientiae he had the opportunity to reconnect with his former professors, Don Eduardo Baura and Don Miguel Ángel Ortiz. The visit was marked by warm exchanges and reflections on his academic journey. As an student of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Mar Sebastian pursued there his doctorate in Canon Law, shaping his theological and canonical expertise. His address to the community focused on faith, vocation, and missionary service, encouraging seminarians to remain steadfast in their spiritual formation.
