In keeping with the seminary’s long-standing tradition, first-year seminarians, accompanied by some formators, undertook an enriching visit to the beautiful region of Toscana from 26 to 28 December. The journey brought together cultural exploration, spiritual reflection, and fraternal bonding.
On 26 December, the group arrived in Pisa, where they visited the renowned Piazza dei Miracoli. Highlights of the visit included the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa (Torre Pendente), the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, and the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. These sites offered the seminarians a profound encounter with art, history, and faith. Later in the day, the group traveled to Lucca to visit the Sanctuary of St. Gemma Galgani. The day concluded with an overnight stay at the Monastery of St. Cerbone, which provided a serene environment for rest and prayer.
The second day, 27 December, was dedicated primarily to Florence. The seminarians visited the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, masterfully guided by Enrico Santini, president of the Ars et Fides Firenze association, thus being able to appreciate its rich theological and artistic heritage. This was followed by a visit to the magnificent Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. The day concluded at the Museum of Beato Angelico, where the group reflected on the harmony between faith, beauty, and vocation as expressed through sacred art.
"On December 28th, the final day of the trip, the group moved to Siena. There, among other sites such as the churches of San Francesco and San Domenico, they visited the house of Saint Catherine of Siena, allowing the seminarians to delve deeper into the life and testimony of the great mystic."
The visit to Toscana proved to be a memorable and meaningful experience, strengthening fraternity among the first-year seminarians and deepening their appreciation of the Church’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage. It was a journey that truly nourished both mind and soul.
