On February 2, 2025, Don Francisco Eusébio Vinumo, an alumnus of our college and a newly ordained priest from the Archdiocese of Huambo, Angola, returned to celebrate the Holy Mass for the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Ordained on August 18, 2024, his visit was a joyous occasion for the college community, where he reflected on key themes for Christian life: obedience, hope, and suffering.
In his homily, Don Francisco focused on three central themes. First, he spoke of obedience, using the example of Mary and Joseph's faithful observance of the Jewish law when presenting Jesus at the temple. He highlighted how their obedience demonstrated that Jesus came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. The second theme was hope, exemplified by Simeon and Anna, who patiently awaited the Messiah. Don Francisco encouraged the congregation to hold fast to hope, even in times of difficulty, and reminded them that true hope is rooted in trusting God’s plan. Finally, he reflected on suffering, drawing from the prophecy of Simeon, which foretold Mary’s pain. He explained that often it is through suffering that God’s love and salvation are revealed.
Before the final blessing, Don Francisco expressed gratitude to the rector and formators for the spiritual formation he received during his time at the college. After Mass, he joined the community for breakfast, leaving with a deep sense of connection and gratitude.
