On May 10 at 3:30 p.m., a solemn and joyful liturgical celebration took place at the Basilica of Sant’Anastasia, where several seminarians from Sedes Sapientiae received sacred orders in the Syro-Malabar Church. Three seminarians—Justin Pokkath, Divin Alappat, and Ronil Thenayan—were conferred the order of Karoyusa (Lectorate), marking their important role as proclaimers of the Word. Additionally, five seminarians—Jithin Joseph, Naveen Joemon, Melwin T. Jaison, Antony Ouseph, and Eloi Chiramel—received Heupadiyakonusa (the order of Acolyte), preparing them for greater service at the altar. Furthermore, Antony Ouseph was ordained to the sacred order of the diaconate, taking a significant step toward his vocation in the Church.
The ceremony was presided over by Msgr. Jose Kalluvelil, bishop of the Diocese of Mississauga (Canada), who performed the sacred imposition of hands. Assisting him in the liturgical rites was Fr. Babu Panatuparambil, parish priest of the Basilica of Sant’Anastasia, serving as Archdeacon of the celebration. The solemn Santa Qurbana (Holy Mass) was concelebrated by the rector of Sedes Sapientiae, Don Sergio Tapia, alongside Vice Rector Eduardo Gil. The event was graced by the presence of numerous priests, seminarians, and friends who joined in prayer, witnessing this meaningful moment of ecclesiastical tradition. The occasion reflected both the deep spiritual heritage of the Syro-Malabar Church and the vibrant diversity of the universal Catholic Church, offering a profound liturgical experience within the international seminary community.
