The current years have witnessed a rapid growth of Catholicism in China. The history of Christianity in China has been troublesome along the centuries. But the recent boom of Christianity is a testimony of the ardent faith of the faithful and their perseverance. In this context, Pope Francis is playing a pivotal role in order to improve the diplomatic relations with the Holy See and the republic of China.
On Friday, 18 October, two Chinese bishops, participants of the synod, visited our seminary. They were Msgr. Giuseppe Yang Yongqiang, bishop of Hangzhou, capital of the Chinese province of Zhejiang, and Msgr. Vincenzo Zhan Silu, bishop of Funing in the coastal province of Fujian. This is the third time that two bishops from the People's Republic of China could participate in the Synod.
The seminary community was elated to hear the prayer in the refectory in Chinese language. After the visit to the Blessed Sacrament, the bishops shared their experiences of evangelization and gave the blessing. Also, as a token of friendship, the bishops presented the seminary, a Chinese painting of the last supper, which was received by the rector, don Sergio Tapia.
