In Memoriam: Fr. Pedro Moreno García

We have learnt with sadness the passing on of Fr. Pedro Moreno Garcia who answered God's call on 25 October. He was suffering for quite some time.

He received his priestly formation in our seminary in the first years of the college from 1993 to 1999 the same year in which he received diaconate ordination . He then receive priestly ordination on 1st July 2000 in the diocese of Orihuela-Alicante (Spain) to which he belonged.

In Rome he studied Philosophy, Theology and later a Licentiate in Canon Law at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. He later on came back to Rome now to study doctorate at the same University and defended his thesis titled The conformity of the sentences in 2011.

In 2012 he was appointed as auditor judge of the Tribunal Rota of Madrid which depends on the Apostolic Nunciature of Spain. Until then he had been secretary-chancellor of the Curia of Orihuela-Alicante, judge of his ecclesiastical court and parish priest of the parish of El Salvador, in Alicante.

In the homily of the funeral Mass for his eternal rest, the Dean of the Spanish Rota, Mons. Carlos Morán, pointed out that Fr. Pedro Moreno as "an excellent judge, meticulous instructor, tireless worker. He loved Law, what is right, he suffered himself before the suffering of others that he saw in so many cases, but also grieved him the lack of professionalism that is sometimes noticed in legal services. (...) .

The Lord wanted him to serve the Church - in the expression of John Paul II to the judges of the Rota - a true sacerdos iuris. He administered justice in the name of God, and in so doing hev was the light for those who were searching for the truth of their conjugal-family life, and also for those who sought support - through listening - in their family difficulties and conjugal.

In December 2018, Fr. Pedro had received a gift in Valencia from the members of the courts of that ecclesiastical province, summoned by the cardinal archbishop of Valencia, Antonio Cañizares and by the bishop of Alicante, Mons. Jesús Murgui.
