On the evening of Wednesday, April 8, Don Miguel Angel Tábet, professor emeritus of Sacred Scripture and History of Exegesis at the University of the Holy Cross, died at the University Hospital Campus Bio-medico in Rome.
In communicating the news, the Rector of the University, Professor Luis Navarro, added: "he, a priest, who lived teaching and deepening the Word of God, met the Word of God in person. Let us pray for him and trust in his intercession".
Born in Caracas (Venezuela) on 24 December 1941, he was one of the first ordinary professors at the then Roman Academic Centre of the Holy Cross, from 1984. He taught, among other things, the Hebrew language, exegesis and biblical hermeneutics, with particular dedication to the texts of the Old Testament. He was a member of several international biblical associations, including the Italian Biblical Association, since 1972, and the Spanish Biblical Association, since 1982.
Many seminarians of the Sedes Sapientiae have been his students. In the photo above (2014) you can see him after his last class at the University, surrounded by many former students of Sedes and some from other colleges. Don Eusebio González, confessor in our seminary and professor of Sacred Scripture, edited the volume Collectanea Biblica, which contains most of his writings. In this link you can see a video recorded on April 9, 2014 on the occasion of the academic ceremony that took place on that date in honor of Prof. Tábet.
