On October 19, we had the honor of welcoming His Excellency Edoardo Aldo Cerrato, Bishop Emeritus of Ivrea and a distinguished Oratorian of St. Philip Neri. Bishop Cerrato served as Bishop of Ivrea from 2012 until his retirement in 2024. Prior to that, he held the important role of Procurator General of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri from 1994 to 2012, dedicating many years to the promotion and preservation of the Oratorian charism.
During his visit, Bishop Cerrato offered a rich and inspiring reflection on the life, personality, and sanctity of St. Philip Neri, founder of the Oratory. He traced the origins and mission of the Congregation of the Oratory, offering both historical insight and spiritual depth. He also spoke about his own ministry as Bishop of Ivrea, sharing the personal and profound story of how he received and responded to his nomination as bishop—a moment marked by humility, trust, and obedience to God’s will.
He reminded us that we are instruments in God’s hands, and that it is the Lord Himself who accomplishes His work through us. With simplicity and conviction, he encouraged us not to fear what God entrusts to us, but to say “yes” with confidence, knowing that the One who calls is also the One who remains faithful—Ille fidelis, as his episcopal motto beautifully states. We are deeply grateful for Bishop Cerrato’s presence, wisdom, and joyful witness to a life of fidelity in Christ.
