Bishop, Priest, and Deacon

The three degrees of the sacred order are deacon, priest, and bishop. Sedes Sapientiae Seminary was blessed with the rare joy of witnessing the ordinations of three alumni on the same day—December 14—as deacon, priest, and bishop. These ordinations took place on December 14, the feast of St. John of the Cross, in the Vatican, San Salvador, and Nigeria.

Mons. Rubén Darío Ruiz Mainardi, the newly appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Benin and Togo, was consecrated archbishop at St. Peter's Basilica by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State. Mons. Rubén Darío is the first seminarian from Sedes Sapientiae to be ordained a priest in 1991.

Deacon Isaac Arce Paredes was ordained a priest at the Parish of El Señor de las Misericordias in Aguilares, San Salvador. He was ordained by Mons. Reinaldo Sorto Martínez, for the Military Ordinariate of El Salvador.

Solomon Elochukwu Ezekweme was ordained a deacon at St. Joseph Cathedral, Ekwulobia, by Cardinal Peter Okpaleke, the Bishop of Ekwulobia.

These ordinations signify not only the culmination of years of preparation, but also a new beginning in the lives of those who have received a new ministry in the Church. We pray for them that God will bless their generous dedication to the Church with abundant fruit.
