Serving both as an honor guard and an armed force, the Swiss Guards carry out both ceremonial and protective duties. In the courtyard, the guide explained the history and structure of the barracks and the significance of the various flags. He also demonstrated the traditional spear and explained the different ranks and medals. Later, the seminarians toured the museum of the armoury, which showcased the different uniforms. The visit concluded at the Bronze Gate, where they witnessed the change of guard.
