On the occasion of the solemnity of All Saints, Friday, 1 November, 17 of our seminary companions were instituted acolytes, during the Eucharistic celebration presided by His Excellency Edgar Peña Parra, titular archbishop of Telepte, Substitute of the Secretariat of State, in the Basilica of Saint Apollinare.
The new acolytes come from four continents and eleven countries: Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, El Salvador, Italy, Croatia, Philippines and India.
With a very rich homily, the Archbishop commented on the readings of the liturgy of the day, reminding us that the call to holiness is addressed to all men by God who in his goodness and wisdom gave himself to us.
In particular, to the new Acolytes, he encouraged them to develop a close relationship with the Eucharist and to foster the desire to exercise their ministry with enthusiasm and a spirit of service.
After Holy Mass, we spent a brief moment of conviviality in the adjacent courtyard of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, where refreshments were offered that we could share together with the many friends who participated in the celebration.
Best wishes to these new acolytes. We pray in union with all saints that they exercise this ministry according to the will of God.
